The land on which we gather is the traditional territory of the Kanien\u2019keha:ka (Mohawk), a place which has long served as a site of meeting and exchange amongst nations.<\/p>\n<p>The distinguished speakers who will contribute to this year\u2019s colloquium include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>October 2, 2017 (14:00-17h30, OCDH 16):&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dal.ca\/faculty\/law\/faculty-staff\/our-faculty\/kim-brooks.html\" target=\"_blank\">Kim Brooks<\/a><\/strong>, Professor of Law, Dalhousie University. Former Dean, Dalhousie Law, Prof. Brooks is an internationally recognized tax scholar. Professor Brooks will present a keynote and take part in a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcgill.ca\/law\/channels\/event\/100-years-tax-law-canada-270377\">half-day symposium<\/a>&nbsp;on the history of tax law in Canada.<\/li>\n<li><strong>October 23, 2017 (14h30-17h30, NCDH 203):&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/pichhadze\/\" target=\"_blank\">Amir Pichhadze<\/a><\/strong>, Lecturer, Deakin University, Australia. Prof. Pichhadze is an emerging scholar who studied comparative tax law in the U.S. and U.K. and completed a Judicial Clerkship at the Tax Court of Canada. He will present work in progress on the development of value added taxes in Canada, the U.K., and the U.S.<\/li>\n<li><strong>November 6, 2017 (14h30-17h30, NCDH 203):&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dal.ca\/faculty\/arts\/history\/faculty-staff\/our-faculty\/shirley-tillotson.html\" target=\"_blank\">Shirley Tillotson<\/a><\/strong>,&nbsp;Professor of History, Dalhousie University, is a recognized expert in Canadian tax law history who has written multiple articles and books on the subject. Professor Tillotson will discuss her new book,&nbsp;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ubcpress.ca\/give-and-take\">Give and Take: The Citizen-Taxpayer and the Rise of Canadian Democracy<\/a><\/em>, and her upcoming research plans.<\/li>\n<li><strong>November 20, 2017 (14h30-17h30, NCDH 203):&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.americanbarfoundation.org\/faculty\/profile\/46\" target=\"_blank\">Ajay Mehrotra<\/a><\/strong>,&nbsp;Executive Director and Research Professor, American Bar Foundation, and Professor of Law, Northwestern University. Professor Mehrotra is a leading voice on tax history in North America who has studied various aspects of interrelationships and influences in Canadian and U.S. tax law history. Mr Mehrotra will present a work in progress on intersecting developments in Canadian and U.S. tax law history.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><strong>December 4, 2017 (14h30-17h30, NCDH 203):&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.oktlaw.com\/team-members\/ashley-stacey\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ashley Stacey<\/a><\/strong>, Associate, Olthuis Kleer Townshend. Ms. Stacey is a junior associate whose practice is focused on advising First Nations and First Nation-owned businesses on corporate and commercial transactions and who blogs at&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/oktlaw.com\/first-nation-owned-businesses-need-know-collecting-gsthst\/\">oktlaw.com<\/a>&nbsp;on tax and governance issues relevant to First Nations communities.
