Mtre Paul Ryan has over 40 years of experience in tax litigation and represents a multitude of clients in their disputes with tax authorities (corporate and personal income tax, GST, QST and other taxes, voluntary disclosures, tax evasion, bankruptcies and proposals, customs, etc.).
Mtre Ryan is known as a seasoned negotiator and gifted pleader and communicator. His analytical mind enables him to rapidly identify the issues at stake and to avoid useless debates.
In recent years, Mtre Ryan has represented hundreds of taxpayers who have repatriated funds held abroad with his assistance, by making a voluntary disclosure to the Canada Revenue Agency and Revenue Quebec.
Mtre Ryan is also an accredited Mediator with the Bar of Québec and his vast experience and knowledge of taxation and conciliatory skills allow him to guide parties in conflict towards original and practical solutions to settle their disputes.
Mtre Ryan is a frequent lecturer for various organizations, including the Association de planification fiscale et financière (APFF – Fiscal and Financial Planning Association) and the Bar of Québec. Mtre Ryan has also published numerous reference texts in the field of taxation.
Mtre Ryan has always been actively involved in the legal and tax community and has chaired or participated in several committees, of the Bar of Montreal and the APFF. Mtre Ryan is also a member of the Committee on the Economy and Public Finance of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal.
Mtre Ryan also taught for more than 20 years at his alma mater, University of Montreal, in the Masters in Law (Tax) program.
Mtre Ryan is the author of the book Quand le Fisc attaque (When the Tax Man Attacks), published in 2012 by Éditions La Presse.
